Sabin Hall Renovation (FY2011)

Sabin Hall has gone through a major remodel and finished as the first LEED gold building on campus. Being LEED is recognized as being sustainable and energy efficient. This includes a mechanical system that is not only the most efficient and cost effective in terms of life cycle cost, but is laid out with the classrooms and offices separate due to differences in hours. The HVAC system is a variable air volume system with a dedicated outside air unit. This allows for better control of the tempered air needed for the space. The chilled water for this building comes from the existing chillers located in McCollum Science Hall. This helps increase the load on the chillers, which makes them run more efficiently. Low wattage lighting was installed and occupancy sensors were added in all offices, seminar rooms, restrooms and the lecture hall. With the natural light incorporated throughout, this enables the use of daylight harvesting with turns off unneeded artificial light. With these improvements incorporated into the renovation, we have trimmed approximately 38% off of our annual energy use for this
